Parent Information Night with Greg Marley from NAMI Maine:

A Parent Night (optional) has been scheduled for Wednesday, May 26 at 6:00 pm on ZOOM; Greg Marley from NAMI Maine (National Association for Medical Illness) will be on hand to share information about helping students experiencing a tragic loss. More information: Supporting our Families and Protecting our Children after a Suicide (or a Traumatic Death) Greg A Marley, LCSW -Facilitator Clinical Director, NAMI Maine When a suicide or other traumatic loss happens in our community, the shock and the grief makes everyone feel less safe; if the loss involves a youth, our concerns over the safety of all children grows. Support for a community after a suicide loss is to allow the time and opportunity to grieve and to actively support the needs of those people most affected by the loss. We invite you to take part in a presentation by a leading expert in suicide prevention and response in Maine as he talks about the grief following a traumatic death; how to care for ourselves and our children in the aftermath of this tragedy. Mr. Marley will also address the leading causes and signs of suicide to prepare families and the community as a resource for suicide prevention for anyone at risk. School and community clinicians will offer avenues to get help for people in need of support. Suicide prevention is up to us all and now, more than ever, we need to know what we can do to support our families and our community. This talk is for parents, grandparents, adult and adolescent family members, school staff and anyone in the community feeling the effects of this loss who wants to support suicide prevention. He has practiced in the field of community mental health and prevention in Maine for over 30 years. Since 2007, Greg has developed and presented training and education supporting the needs of a diverse set of partners in suicide prevention across Maine. He comes to this work from a background in crisis and emergency services, substance abuse prevention, and program management. In the aftermath of a suicide, he has provided debriefing, guidance and support to schools, organizations and people in grief.
